Covenant House Atlantic City was recently featured in the Press of Atlantic City for our work on supportive housing for homeless youth. Contemplating life without her apartment and support services Chelsea, one of the young people benefiting from our program, said, "I'd probably be in one of the other shelters or programs I was in before, and I didn't like any of them. On June 13th, employees from the Legal and Compliance team at Prudential visited Covenant House in Newark to host a BBQ lunch for our kids and staff! Besides a great meal, the Prudential team sponsored games and activities for our youth, as well as providing a DJ with music to dance to.Read More
Featured Youth Story
Meet Ashley. He currently resides at our Rights of Passage program in Newark, and has a very compelling story of hope and persistence. He recently shared his story at our Casino Night event on June 19, 2014, to benefit the Rights of Passage program. These are his words.
Covenant House outreach extends beyond vans. Our outreach staff members attend committee meetings and sit on mayoral councils, and we visit local schools, hospitals, churches, and community group events – all to educate anyone who might encounter a teen in need so he or she can recognize the signs of homelessness and child trafficking.
"By heading to where the kids are, day or night, we let them know that they have other options – our day services, our shelters, our safe haven. They can see that they have options beyond survival sex, drugs, and other dangers of the street."
