Meet Ashley. He currently resides at our Rights of Passage program in Newark, and has a very compelling story of hope and persistence. He recently shared his story at our Casino Night event on June 19, 2014, to benefit the Rights of Passage program. These are his words.
Covenant House outreach extends beyond vans. Our outreach staff members attend committee meetings and sit on mayoral councils, and we visit local schools, hospitals, churches, and community group events – all to educate anyone who might encounter a teen in need so he or she can recognize the signs of homelessness and child trafficking.
"By heading to where the kids are, day or night, we let them know that they have other options – our day services, our shelters, our safe haven. They can see that they have options beyond survival sex, drugs, and other dangers of the street."
